Jewelweed contains 2-methoxy-1, 4-napthoquinone, an anti-inflammatory and fungicide that's the active ingredient of Preparation H. We love this plant and use it to make Jewelweed Salve and Jewelweed Soap. Jewelweed is great for treating poison ivy. In 1958, a clinical study was conducted documenting that Jewelweed is an excellent subsitute for ACTH and corticosterioids in the treatment of poison ivy dermatitis. It is also great for relief from itchy bug bites, and my customers tell me it's good for clearing up mystery skin rashes. It can be used for warts, bruises, and fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot and ringworm. It is also helpful for nettle stings, minor burns, cuts, eczema, psoriasis, acne, sores, and skin irritations. We like to call Jewelweed, nature’s cortisone.
